In the 1930s, Max Fleischer and a team of animators created a cartoon character who became a caricature of the ‘jazz age flapper’. She is regarded as one of the first and best-known sex symbols on the animated screen. She is also one of the best-known and popular cartoon characters in the world. The supremely sensual – Miss Betty Boop.
Betty Boop
What we love about Betty Boop is her unparalleled confidence. Sure, her character was drawn that way, but her hoop earrings, gold bracelets, cute curls, suggestive winks, and shaking hips make us Arayla London girls wish we all possessed even an ounce of Betty’s self-assurance.
Bella recently admitted that her ‘spare bedroom’ is now a storage room packed full of bags, shoes, and clothes she bought … simply to boost her confidence. It’s funny how a simple accessory can make you feel like a million dollars and how everything can change with inner confidence. Betty might rock those gold hoop earrings but Bella commands the room with her Manhattan in Mermaid Stingray. We also know that if Bella turns up with her Onyx Nightingale, she could do with a confidence boost.
Faye
Faye recalls a time when she, unfortunately, crossed paths with a rude fellow commuter on the London Underground. He was clearly determined to cause trouble that morning and picked on Faye who was in his line of sight. Usually very reserved and unconfrontational, Faye recollects with great pride how she wasn’t going to accept his bad behavior, stood up for herself, gave as good as she got, and received a round of applause in the carriage. She admits that her Grande Hepburn, which is the same size as Faye, acted as a physical barrier and therefore gave her the inner courage to bite back. We were so proud of her (and started thinking that we should really do more oversized bags).
Sophie
Recently, Sophie came out of a toxic relationship. It was a terrible time although the relationship was bad throughout and we always wished for Sophie that she would move on. Her ex-boyfriend was a bully, coercive, and Sophie fell deeper into his control losing all sense of herself. One of his controlling mechanisms was that he only wanted her to wear dark colors. For an exceptionally prolonged period, we would only see Sophie in black, navy, and charcoal. In London, given the weather, you can get away with it for most of the year without it being particularly noticeable, so we didn’t notice it. Over several years, Sophie eventually developed the incredible strength and courage to move on with her own life. We vividly remember the day Sophie walked into the office wearing a bright fuchsia dress accessorized with a Rose Quartz Austen. We collectively cried with happiness the whole morning.
Handbags are so much more than accessories. For Bella, it gives her the energy to ‘light up the room’. For Faye, it gives her protection and inner strength. And for Sophie, it’s her voice to say that she will no longer be bullied. Am sure you, dear reader, will have your own story to tell. We hope that we can be there for you during the highs and lows.
